Joe Sullivan

Joe Sullivan at the piano
Born in Chicago, into an Irish immigrant family, Joe Sullivan was first introduce to classical piano at a very young age, before switching to jazz music in the early twenties. He became a major pianist on the Chicago scene and recorded with Red McKenzi, and then with Bob Crosby from 1933 with whom he signed his hit composition « Little Rock Gateway ».

Joe Sullivan played in a stride piano style, influenced by Earl Hines et Fats Waller.
